Guitars Here Beside Us

Chris brought SPF 30 sunscreen with us to the game, but I opted not to lather myself with the stuff. I regret that course of action, as I am now burnt wholly to a crisp. Rebekah Lilly wrote me an e-mail in which she said she had heard that Busch Stadium was nice, and while I cannot disagree, in my reply to her I implied that I appreciate The Juice Box's roof more than I did before. I also like choo-choo trains.

Part of a baseball game's attraction is the opportunity it presents for unobtrusive people-watching. I dislike interacting with people directly, but observing them usually entertains me quite a bit. However, I believe my behavior struck the people around me as "odd" more than theirs did me. For instance, I purchased an ice cream cone (it being over ninety degrees outside) that slowly and deliberately migrated to my lap (it being over ninety degrees outside). I recall thinking to myself, as I approached the ice cream concession stand after the fourth or fifth inning,
Gee, that bored-looking girl leaning on the ice cream cart isn't serving anyone. Therefore, I shall approach her instead of wading through the people surrounding the fresh lemonade stand!
This demonstrates my inability to put two and two together. It never occurred to me to probe why on a hot day no one ordered ice cream. I might say I wish I wasn't so daffy, but then, the people who noted the chocolate drips on my jeans will never see me again; thus, my error matters not.

I love ice cream.

I also love Edgar Renteria. To proclaim my affections for all the world to acknowledge, I purchased a twenty-six-dollar t-shirt bearing his last name and his uniform number (tres, drei, san). However, I approached that same number (3) of retail locations at Busch Stadium in order to find my buddy Edgar's surname splayed across the back of a bright red 100% cotton official Major League Baseball t-shirt. This greatly displeased me. Renteria, to quote my uncle Chris, is "a good, solid player". He's been a steady, productive fixture since the Cardinals drafted him, and I am especially incensed that they dare under-represent my favourite-est player in the whole wide world in their revenue-building t-shirt sales.

I love Edgar Renteria.
