The Checkered Camel Company

April's mommy sent me a handmade blankie (I believe April also contributed to its formation), with little fringies on the end for me to yank on. The underside is white, and the topside is black with snowflakes. I am wrapped in it now, because Missouri is fucking freezing- the temperature the past few days has been in the twenties. It takes an eternity for me to wipe the ice off my windshield. The stuff grips the glass quite tenaciously.

My sociology teacher brought up Thomas Hobbes this morning during an aside as she was listing the three basic principles of sociology and their creators (Durkheim, Marx, and Weber). I was one of only two people who had even heard his name. As she described them, I slowly recollected his theories on the nature of man. My professor also mentioned the cartoon character Hobbes, which then had me daydreaming the rest of the period about the Calvin and Hobbes comic strips.

My persuasion professor did not show up for class and sent a substitute (one of the other communications instructors) rather than cancel the class. I might not have minded this, except that the sub was too controlling. Our essay topic (the essay is due the day of our first test) is "Describe your personal view of persuasion", using three or four terms from the handbook. Our assignment today was to form groups and discuss how to format the paper. Well, this took everyone about three minutes, after which each group sidetracked into more general conversations. After observing and apparently having gotten bored by our digressions, the sub halted our conversations and ordered us to return to the topic of persuasion, which no one was in any mood to do. What did she think we came to class for, anyway? Fortunately, she recognized we wouldn't be able to sustain our artificial attempts at completing more constructive work, and she therefore dismissed us after about ten additional minutes. She informed us she would be subbing again this Thursday, which led to suppressed moans around the room.
